Chronicler of Kings mark

For Crusader Kings III

Every reign deserves
a chronicler.

Chronicler of Kings is a free companion app that sits over Crusader Kings III. Your court speaks, a game master narrates your reign, and what gets said writes real consequences back into the game.

A court that speaks

Crusader Kings is the greatest story engine ever built, and it tells its stories in silence. The duel, the betrayal, the forty-year grudge: the game hands you the facts and leaves the words to your imagination. Chronicler of Kings supplies the words. It watches your game as you play and lets you sit down with anyone in it: your spymaster, your rival claimant, the queen who knows exactly what you did. Each of them speaks from the game's own record, their titles, their wars, their secrets, their opinion of you, and sounds like the person the game says they are.

Words that move the realm

These conversations are not a costume over the game; they reach into it. Charm a rival across the feast table and his opinion of you actually rises. Let the wrong threat slip and a scheme starts turning against you. Promise your daughter's hand and the betrothal is waiting the next time you open the marriage screen. And when something cannot take hold in your save, the app tells you so instead of pretending; a consequence you see is a consequence that happened.

A game master at your shoulder

Beyond one-on-one audiences, Chronicler runs scenes the way a game master runs a table: it sets the room, voices the whole cast, and lets characters join or leave as the story pulls them in. The app lives in a quiet overlay above the game, there when you summon it and invisible when you don't, so the realm never waits while you alt-tab.

The dead keep talking

A reign ends; the chronicle does not. Chronicler remembers the rulers you have already played, what they did, and what was said at their tables, and the court you sit in now remembers them too. Your grandfather's broken oath is not a line in a history file; it is something the old knight across the table was there for.

Powered by LoreWind

The voices come from the storytellers who run LoreWind campaigns: frontier models, curated and tested, now wearing your court's faces. LoreWind sign-in is coming later; during the beta you bring your own model key, and the same storytellers answer.

Download

Chronicler of Kings is in beta. The build below is free and yours to keep, and the LoreWind Discord hears about every update the hour it ships.

Download for Windows (beta, 23 MB)
  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit; nothing else to install
  • Crusader Kings III, vanilla and major mods, starting with A Game of Thrones
  • The Crusader Kings III mod rides inside the app: first launch installs it and every update keeps it current. Your only step is enabling Chronicler of Kings in your CK3 playset
  • During the beta, the court's voices come from a model provider key you supply; signing in with your LoreWind account instead is on the road to 1.0

Chronicler of Kings is for adults, and installing it means agreeing to the Chronicler of Kings Terms of Use.

A note on the Windows warning: this beta installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may show an "unknown publisher" screen when you run it. That's expected: click "More info", then "Run anyway". We'll be signing releases before launch; for now, every download here comes straight from us.
A note on antivirus: the installer contains nothing but the app itself. A future update will add an optional vision feature that screenshots your Crusader Kings III window (the game window only, never your desktop) so the storyteller knows what your characters look like. Screen capture is exactly the kind of thing antivirus software watches for, so when that feature arrives your antivirus may take an interest; if it does, that is what it is reacting to.

Questions worth asking

Is it really free?

The app is free to download and keep. The storytellers inside it run on LoreWind, so a LoreWind account is what gives your court its voices.

Does it work with mods?

It is built for that from the start. I play A Game of Thrones myself, so the app grows up against the biggest total conversion there is, not just vanilla.

Will it come to other games?

The engine underneath was designed for more than one game, and later editions will ship as their own apps. Crusader Kings III comes first, and it gets finished first.
